The prestigious World Champagnes and sparkling wines Competition, the Champagne and Sparkling Wine World Championships (CSWWC), has just named Estelado Rosé, by Miguel Torres Chile, as the best sparkling wine in the world within non-traditional varieties. Known as the Oscars of champagne and sparkling wines, this contest is organized by the greatest expert on this subject, Tom Stevenson, along with an exceptional jury, which include the Master of Wine Essi Avellan and Dr. Tony Jordan, among others.

In its third edition the CSWWC counted on the presence of sparkling wines from all over the world who were faced with evaluation criteria based exclusively on the context of their origin and style from blind tastings.

 

It was in this instance where Estelado Rosé added other important recognitions such as, Gold Medal in its category; Best organic Chilean sparkling wine; Best sparkling Chilean rosé and best Chilean sparkling wine.

 

Estelado is Chile's first sparkling wine made with Uva País, the oldest variety in Chile whose arrival dates from the 16th century. "We were convinced that the recovery of this strain would result in this wonderful sparkling wine. A product of excellent quality that would not only become the best in Chile, but the world "says Miguel Torres Maczassek, General Director of Bodegas Torres and President of Miguel Torres Chile.

A rescue to viticulture

 

Estelado was born with the aim of recovering the oldest variety of Chile, which had been forgotten and despised for many years. The rescue of this strain would allow small producers to enter the market and incidentally could improve the value of their raw material, through Fair Trade. It also led to the establishment of standards of labor and environmental sustainability.

 

This project of Miguel Torres Chile, together with the University of Talca and the Foundation for Agrarian Innovation allowed us to understand that the country grape was able to give life to a product of excellence. "However, the most important thing is that for each bottle consumed Estelado, we are helping to create demand and, therefore, better conditions for farmers of different country," comments the fifth generation of the Torres Family.
